What product is used?
At the Mid Yorkshire Skin Clinic we use the Flawless Pen or a WOW Fusion device for our microneedling treatments. The Flawless Pen is made from medical grade stainless steel and utilises sterile single-use surgical grade disposable cartridge tips containing 12 tiny microneedles made from medical-grade stainless steel.

How does Skin microneedling/Collagen Induction Therapy work?
The skin micro needling treatment crates a multitude of tiny puncture wounds to the dermis which targets keratinocytes, melanocytes and fibroblast cells and induces the release of growth factors that stimulate the productions of new collagen and elastin. The wound from a microneedle goes through the same process of healing as a larger wound (inflammation, proliferation, tissue remodelling).
How popular is this treatment?
This treatment is very popular as it creates dermal damage without removal of the healthy epidermis which means that (compared to some resurfacing treatments such as laser) the healing time is rapid, does not cause any comparable pain and results are quick, long lasting and cost effective.
What areas can be treated?
- Face (rejuvenation, wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, elasticity, open pores, comedones, chicken pox scars, surgical scars)
- Abdomen (i.e. stretch marks, scars)
- Legs (stretch marks, cellulite, scars)
What happens during my consultation?
During your consultation a detailed medical history will be taken, helping the medical specialist to determine whether the treatment is an appropriate product/treatment for you to receive and whether it will help you achieve the results that you are looking for. You may also require this face to face assessment to determine how many sessions you will require to achieve desired results and if you require any skin priming before your treatment appointment.
What happens during my treatment appointment?
Depending on the depth and type of treatment local anaesthetic topical cream is may be applied to the skin 30-45 minutes before treatment. The skin is cleansed and sanitised with an appropriate solution.
A sterile tip containing 12 tiny micro-needles is attached to the Flawless Pen. Your nurse will apply Hyaluronic Acid (HA) a hydrating serum and select the appropriate treatment pen settings based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in circular motions until the entire treatment area has been covered.
The skin is rolled in sections to obtain uniform redness and pinpoint bleeding throughout the treated section. The skin is cleansed with warm water and patted dry with sterile gauze. Aftercare products are applied such as an ‘oxygen facial’ treatment or bionic treatment. The needle tip is disposed of into a sharps bin as they are single use.
What’s the aftercare advice?
You will be given verbal and written advice and post treatment skin care and advice. You will be advised not to touch the treated areas and avoid makeup on the day of treatment. Gentle skincare without active ingredients and high broad spectrum SPF should be used post treatment.
How long do the results last?

Treatment frequently asked questions (FAQs)
The feeling associated with the Flawless Pen is similar to vibrating pressure being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating cartridge tip makes the treatment more comfortable. The treatment with the pen is much more comfortable than a traditional dermal roller.
Your skin will resemble sunburn on the day of treatment and will quickly subside, on day one and two you may experience light to moderate swelling, redness and sensitivity. After day five the treated skin area should be completely healed. There is very little downtime after this treatment. You could return to normal activities the following day.
