do you have unwanted hair?
Unwanted facial and body hair is a very common problem affecting most people to varying degrees throughout their lives prompting the use of various temporary methods of hair reduction or hair management systems. However, electrolysis is still the only method classified as permanent.
what is electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a safe, effective, progressively permanent method of removing unwanted hair. A tiny probe (about the size of an eyelash) is inserted into the individual hair follicle where a short burst of energy is targeted at the growth center of the hair. After the therapeutic dose of energy is received the hair is easily removed with tweezers.
What areas can be treated?
- All areas of the face and body can be treated
What happens during my consultation?
You will have a consultation to determine if treatment is suitable for you and which method is best. You will have an opportunity to ask questions about the treatment and to experience a ‘taster’ session. The Electrologist will work on the treatment area for around 15 minutes to find the therapeutic sessions for your skin and hair type.
What happens during my treatment appointment?
Once your electrologist has found the therapeutic sessions for your skin and hair type during your consultation a treatment appointment will be booked. Treatment appointment times range from 15 – 60 minutes. Your electrologist will recheck any changes with your medical history and ensure that you are comfortable. The treatment area will be worked on for the full appointment time. Aloe vera gel will be applied and aftercare instructions provided.
is electrolysis safe?
We use single use, disposable probes and strict cleaning and treatment protocols to eliminate any risk of cross infection. The treatment relies on damaging the wall of the hair follicle to limit its hair growing capacity. Damage to the skin of any type will have a profile of risk. High quality training reduces the risks but never removes them. Your Electrologist can discuss any risks, including those specific to you, during a consultation.
what are the aftercare instructions?
- Redness, erythema and flushing can occur post treatment. Some patients may experience minor blood spots and scabbing to the hair follicles.
- These symptoms normally subside after the first day. Some patients experience no side effects at all and in some patients side effects may last longer. Skin types, skin health, genetics, health conditions, current skincare, age etc can all have an impact on the skins response to treatment.
- On the day of treatment hands should be washed before applying aftercare products to the treated area as discussed with your practitioner.
- Refrain from using soap, face wipes, tanning products and skincare containing alcohol or perfumes on the treatment area for 24-48 hours.
- Use a SPF 50 daily. Avoid direct sunlight on the skin for 48 hours.
- Avoid make-up for the first 24-48 hours.
- Avoid swimming pools, saunas, hot tubs, situations where you might sweat heavily for the first 24-48 hours
- We recommend that you never use a sunbed/solarium as this increases the risk of skin ageing and skin cancer.
- Avoid unnecessary touching of the area for 8 hours.
- Avoid picking the treated area if any scabs should occur. This can result in hyper or hypopigmentation of the skin and scarring.
- We recommend a basic routine such as gentle hydrating cleansers, moisturisers and SPFs before and after your treatment with active ingredients coming back in to the skincare routine after a few days. This will be discussed with your practitioner for further clarity.
- Avoid any further aesthetic, beauty or electrical treatments for 72 hours.
- It is important that you avoid any other temporary hair removal methods as this can impact on your electrolysis results. Any regrowth of hair can be managed by trimming with scissors.
