What product is used?
At the Mid Yorkshire Skin Clinic we use only non-permanent, gold standard and clinically safe hyaluronic acid fillers. We like to offer a range of products to meet our patient’s individual needs. As we are prescribing nurses we only offer leading brands purchased from a pharmacy with a good evidence base research. Our favourite brand is Aliaxin which is a very pure dissolvable hyaluronic acid filler.
How does is work?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural constituent of skin, young skin is continuously moisturised from within by this naturally occurring sugar. It attracts and holds on to water to provide hydration, structure and volume. The skin’s levels of hyaluronic acid dramatically diminish with age causing skin to become dry and lose volume, wrinkles and grooves begin to appear. Gravity also pulls the skin down resulting in folds and sagging.
Each dermal filler used at Mid Yorkshire Skin Clinic is a smooth gel formulation with minimally cross linked hyaluronic acid, it is injected into the skin to fill the area of volume loss and smooth the skin and also to lift the tissues where sagging/drooping may have occurred.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are now used to augment and enhance facial features even where volume loss or ageing may not have occurred as yet. A popular treatment is ‘Non-surgical rhinoplasty’ where hyaluronic acid is used to alter and shape a person’s nose without invasive surgery.
At Mid Yorkshire Skin Clinic we do not over-enhance facial features or perform what we feel are unnecessary enhancements. We will discuss this with you in consultation. We do not perform treatments on individuals under the age of 18 years.
How popular is this treatment?
Dermal filler injections are the most popular and fastest growing non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the UK and the US. Hyaluronic acid has replaced collagen as the favourite filler of U.K. cosmetic experts. It is more likely to be compatible with our bodies than collagen. Dermal filler injections have a good safety record in the hands of experienced and suitably trained medical professionals, they are low risk procedures and the results are temporary.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty has become incredibly popular as it is relatively painless, there is very little downtime, it is a quick treatment performed in less than one hour, it is a safer alternative to surgery, results can last up to one year and it is relatively inexpensive compared to a surgical procedure.
What areas can be treated?
- Straighten the nose in any profile

- Lift the tip of the nose
- Reduce nasal flare
- Make the nose appear slimmer
- Disguise uneven shape/bumps/contours
What happens during my consultation?
During your consultation a detailed medical history will be taken, helping the medical specialist to determine whether the non-surgical rhinoplasty is an appropriate product/treatment for you to receive and whether it will help you achieve the results that you are looking for. This will also reduce the risk of any unwanted side effects from dermal fillers. During this consultation the potential risks and aftercare recommendations are discussed, helping you determine whether this form of injectable treatment is really right for you.
What happens during my treatment appointment?
Local anaesthetic topical cream can be applied to the areas to be injected prior to the treatment if necessary, the skin is cleaned with an appropriate solution. In some cases local anaesthetic injections can be used.
The prefilled syringe of dermal filler is injected using a small needle or in most cases a blunt ended cannula is used to administer the filler. The hyaluronic acid filler can be injected under the skin into subcutaneous tissue to or deeper into the tissues under muscle onto bone to provide structure, volume or lift.
What’s the aftercare advice?
You will be given verbal and written advice. You will be able to see some results immediately where the product has been placed; you may also see some swelling and perhaps bruising. Best results are seen between 2-3 weeks, a review appointment will be made for this time. A second treatment is not usually required; however, it is good practice to review results.
You will be advised not to touch the treated areas and avoid makeup and alcohol on the treatment day. Also, you should avoid excessive heat such as sauna, steam room, sunbed, sunbathing and spa for 2 weeks. For safety reasons we do not treat our clients with dermal fillers too close to a holiday abroad, we suggest treatment at least 2 weeks in advance.
Who is not suitable for this treatment?
Anyone allergic to any of the ingredients in the dermal filler (Hyaluronic acid is a natural constituent of skin therefore you would not be allergic to this) Lidocaine is usually present within the hyaluronic acid gel formulation
Skin infection at the injection site
Dermal filler treatment is contraindicated for some people with certain auto-immune diseases
If you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breast-feeding (It is not known if the dermal filler can be harmful to your unborn child)
