What product is used?
At the Mid Yorkshire Skin Clinic we only use CE marked medical devices with needles made from medical-grade stainless steel/titanium alloy. Brands include the genuine ‘Dermaroller’ and Skinrolla.
How does Skin microneedling/Collagen Induction Therapy work?
The skin micro needling treatment crates a multitude of tiny puncture wounds to the dermis which targets keratinocytes, melanocytes and fibroblast cells and induces the release of growth factors that stimulate the productions of new collagen and elastin. The wound from a microneedle goes through the same process of healing as a larger wound (inflammation, proliferation, tissue remodelling).
How popular is this treatment?
This treatment is very popular as it creates dermal damage without removal of the healthy epidermis which means that (compared to some resurfacing treatments such as laser) the healing time is rapid, does not cause any comparable pain and results are quick, long lasting and cost effective.
What areas can be treated?
- Face (rejuvenation, wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, elasticity, open pores, comedones, chicken pox scars, surgical scars)
- Abdomen (i.e. stretch marks, scars)
- Legs (stretch marks, cellulite, scars)
What happens during my consultation?
During your consultation a detailed medical history will be taken, helping the medical specialist to determine whether the treatment is an appropriate product/treatment for you to receive and whether it will help you achieve the results that you are looking for. You may also require this face to face assessment to determine how many sessions you will require to achieve desired results and if you require any skin priming before your treatment appointment.
What happens during my treatment appointment?
Local anaesthetic topical cream is applied to the skin 30-45 minutes before treatment. The skin is cleansed and sanitised with an appropriate solution.
Using a new sterile needling device the skin is rolled in sections to obtain uniform redness and pinpoint bleeding throughout the treated section. The skin is cleansed with warm water and patted dry with sterile gauze. Aftercare products are applied such as an ‘oxygen facial’ treatment or bionic treatment. The device is disposed of into a sharps bin as they are single use.
What’s the aftercare advice?
You will be given verbal and written advice and post treatment skin care and advice. You will be advised not to touch the treated areas and avoid makeup on the day of treatment.
How long do the results last?
Who is not suitable for this treatment?

Treatment frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Depending on the initial skin condition and the anticipated procedure result the treatment can be repeated every 6-8 weeks, a course of 3 sessions is usually sufficient. 6-8 week intervals allow for maximum new collagen deposition, however, new collagen formation can continue for up to 6-12 months after one treatment.
Your skin will resemble sunburn on the day of treatment and will quickly subside, on day one and two you may experience light to moderate swelling, redness and sensitivity. After day five the treated skin area should be completely healed. There is very little downtime after this treatment. You could return to normal activities the following day.
